My Story

I founded Melanin Minds during the peak of the Global Pandemic after being made redundant following a furlough as an Event Manager.

Originally, back in 2015, Melanin Minds was meant to raise mental health awareness within the melanin community. I wanted to create a charity that would provide funding, help, and resources for those in need, including myself. While my focus has evolved, I’ve remained dedicated to supporting those who struggle mentally while sharing my passion for Caribbean-inspired candles.

In October 2020, I launched my first signature Caribbean collection, featuring 10 unique scents that pay homage to Black culture. Scents like Hummingbird, Crop Over, and the best-seller Zouk Ti Punch, among others, capture the essence of Caribbean life and promote self-care, helping you feel like you’re on an exotic island getaway!

At Melanin Minds, all of my candles, wax snaps, and reed diffusers are hand-poured using 100% soy coconut wax, lead-free wicks, and a non-toxic diffuser base. Our packaging is biodegradable, recyclable, and reusable; even our packing peanuts dissolve in water! The large vessels can easily be repurposed for makeup brushes, pens, keys, and more. Just wash out your jar and ‘Voilà!’

The aroma of my scented candles stimulates the part of the brain connected to memory and mood, uplifting your energy and enhancing your atmosphere. My most popular scent, Zouk Ti Punch – Rum Punch, is always a crowd favorite. Customers are often drawn in by the name, but they’re always amazed by how closely it resembles the actual cocktail!
